Red\u00e9couvert par John Bevis en 1731, puis par Messier en 1758, cet objet a motiv\u00e9 la cr\u00e9ation de son catalogue. La n\u00e9buleuse se compose de filaments de gaz ionis\u00e9 s\\&rsquo;\u00e9tendant \u00e0 1 500 km\/s.
